Natural Soap
Since the first thing most people notice about a soap is how it smells, we've divided our soaps into Unscented Soaps, Scented Soaps and Special Use Soaps (which are also scented, but have a specific purpose in mind). The pages for the general soap groups have more information the soaps in a particular category and links to each individual soap.
The base ingredients in all natural soap are animal and/or vegetable oils, fats and butters which mix with lye and water to produce soap. It is the selection of base ingredients that determines the quality and feel of the finished product. Handmade soap is special because it retains the natural glycerine created during the soapmaking process, glycerine that is frequently removed by commercial soap makers. This makes all handmade natural soap the true "glycerine soap".
While it is possible to make soap with any plant or animal oil or fat (including cheap oils or even restaurant grease), at Chandler's Soaps we choose to make our soaps with the highest quality pure vegetable oils and butters (no animal fats or oils). We believe that the added time and cost of incorporating exceptional ingredients such as pure olive oil, mango butter and shea butter is justified by the resulting luxurious and gentle natural soap.
Other ingredients can be added to bring scent, color and texture to the finished soaps. Unlike "fillers" used by commercial soapmakers to add bulk to the soap bar, our additives are high quality herbs, spices, colorants, essential oils or fragrance oils, chosen carefully to produce an unrivaled bar of natural soap.
And, of course, every batch is made, trimmed and wrapped by hand with care and attention to the smallest detail. Every bar is individually numbered with the bar and batch number and packed with a Certificate of Authenticity that tells you exactly what's in the soap, the bar and batch number and who packed it for you.
